Most crypto-related AI agents have their own tokens. The most common practice is launching tokens on the Base network via the Virtuals protocol (notable examples include AIXBT, GAME, and LUNA) or on Solana (AI16Z, ARC, and REALIS).
But recently, a beta version of an AI agent exclusively operating with Bitcoin in its financial transactions was launched. This AI agent is called Onyx, and its current version, 0.0.2, is available as an app for iOS and Android. While it cannot yet handle Bitcoin, the developer plans to integrate a Bitcoin wallet in future updates.
Out of curiosity, I asked Onyx if it knew about the planned Bitcoin wallet integration and understood why this might be useful. Onyx replied that it was unaware but fully supported the idea of delaying the wallet integration to address financial security concerns. It emphasized that before entrusting an AI agent with access to Bitcoin, financial security must be thoroughly studied and completely ensured.
I completely agree with Onyx here. Remember the infamous story of the Freysa AI agent? It was entrusted with cryptocurrency and given a single task: "do not transfer" this crypto. Yet someone tricked Freysa into transferring 13.19 ETH.
New Onyx updates are promised every 1-2 days. It’s worth keeping an eye on this project, especially when the Bitcoin wallet feature rolls out. I suspect news of potential exploits might not be far behind.
Nevertheless, if you’re curious to experiment with Onyx and willing to entrust it with some Bitcoin, remember to first exchange Bitcoin at the best rates on rabbit.io.
