New Wallet on Cardano Ties Access to Google

The Twitter account @zkFold shared an interesting update: there's a new type of wallet on the Cardano blockchain. It lets you hold your crypto yourself - but without the need to remember a seed phrase. Instead, access is tied to your Google account.

This new tech is called a Smart Wallet. The idea is that crypto is sent to an address like [email protected], and to send or receive funds, the user just needs to log into the corresponding Google account, in other words, prove to the Cardano network that they have access to it.

Personally, I wouldn't call this "smart". Fast & easy? Sure. But also incredibly short-sighted. If you’re confident you’ll always have access to your Google account, you’re being a little too optimistic. Accounts can get suspended or banned for violating (or allegedly violating) some vague policy.

So no - I wouldn’t recommend using this wallet. It’s a step backward. A return to traditional banking, not a move forward for crypto.

Using blockchain addresses to send and receive crypto isn’t hard - rabbit.io users do it every day when they trade coins.

Copy the address, paste it into your wallet, send the coins, and boom - the swap is done. No permissions, no one holding your hand.
