In an interview with CoinDesk, Litecoin creator Charlie Lee was asked what advice he would give his younger self from the future. His answer was simple: instead of creating Litecoin, he would rather have just bought Bitcoin, held it without selling, and stayed anonymous. That path, he said, would have brought him more money and far fewer headaches.
Wise advice, don’t you think?
Litecoin is often described as unnecessary. Critics say it has nothing truly unique - just a Bitcoin clone where experimental features appear earlier than on Bitcoin itself. In theory, all of this could be tested on a testnet. There is no real need for a separate cryptocurrency. It seems that Charlie Lee himself now finds this argument quite reasonable.
And we are talking about Litecoin here - a cryptocurrency that has been running reliably for longer than most others, without major outages or hacks. A coin that was once widely used for cheap transfers between exchanges. In other words, Litecoin genuinely played a positive role in the development of the crypto industry. It was not some scam created just to raise money.
If the people behind scam projects listened to Charlie Lee’s advice, the crypto world would be much cleaner.
As for Litecoin, it will always have its place. Just think about it: Bitcoin-level security based on the same consensus mechanism, optional privacy comparable to Monero or Zcash, and at the same time broad support across the crypto economy.
A great cryptocurrency.
