Bloomberg recently published an article, showing a chart that suggests investing in the MAG7 - Alphabet, Amazon.com, Apple, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla - has been more profitable than Bitcoin over the past three years.
If you look at the chart, it seems that the MAG7’s return consistently outpaces BTC.
But here's the trick: the authors picked a favorable start date (Oct 18, 2021) and unit of measurement (percentage). If we use another date, like Dec 25, 2022, things change:
Charts like these can manipulate opinions, showing only what supports their narrative. If you want to show stocks are better, Bloomberg’s chart works. If you want to show crypto is better, a different timeframe tells another story. Or a different cryptocurrency. E.g., over the same period, Kaspa skyrocketed from $0.0053 to $0.13 (by 2352.84%)!
