Why Casinos Dominate Blockchain Screens
Today, while processing a swap, I had to look up a transaction in the blockchain - and once again I was struck by how heavily many block explorers are filled with crypto-casino ads. Sometimes the banners take up more space than the transaction details themselves.
It made me think about something simple: gambling for money contradicts the very idea of money. Money exists to exchange value. You give value - you receive money. Whoever provides more value ends up with more money. Clear and fair.
But when we win money, this logic breaks down. Money received for nothing loses part of their meaning. In theory, games should use something else as stakes - points, achievements, reputation. In the digital world, cryptocurrencies often fill this role surprisingly well: airdropped tokens, easily mined coins, or assets whose value is largely symbolic and based on collective agreement.
From this angle, the dominance of crypto-casino advertising in block explorers suddenly looks almost natural. Wherever money stops being a tool of exchange and becomes a tool of pure chance, crypto reveals another - not necessarily the most useful, but very telling - facet of the digital economy.
