Polymarket Is Leaving Polygon - What Comes Next?

The CEO of Polymarket has reposted a message from the company’s VP of Engineering and DeFi on X. Among other things, it mentioned that Polymarket is planning to leave Polygon and migrate to another network.

About a year and a half ago, I wrote that Polymarket could help Polygon carve out a strong niche as a chain for gambling. Back then, I didn’t consider the opposite scenario. Polymarket didn’t send Polygon to the moon - but its departure could bring it back down to earth, hard.

When a single project dominates activity on a network, its exit can hit the metrics so severely that the chain starts to look unnecessary.

Given that the VP’s message was amplified by the CEO himself, the migration now looks like a confirmed decision. That puts Polygon on the brink of a serious crisis.

But this raises a broader question for me. There’s another network that depends even more heavily on a single dominant project than Polygon ever did on Polymarket. What happens to Tron if USDT ever leaves?
